AGAR Donates 9,500 lbs of Food to GBFB from Annual Food Show

In Addition, Makes $5,000 Donation to Community Servings

Taunton, MA: April 27, 2009: AGAR, New England’s largest independent broadline food distributor recently donated over 9,500 lbs of food and other food-related items to The Greater Boston Food Bank immediately following their annual food show. AGAR’s food show held April 1 at Gillette Stadium had over 250 vendors that work closely with supplying AGAR customers with food and other products.

Vendors spend the day displaying and sampling food products all day to AGAR customers. What is left over after the closing of the show is then donated to The Food Bank each year. This year, the total amount of food items came in at 9,500 lbs.

The donations were received by The Food Bank and then distributed to their member agencies including Lost and Found Ministries and Teen Challenge New England, both based on Brockton, MA. The items donated included various fresh and frozen meats and other proteins, produce, prepared foods, paper goods and frying oils which drastically help an organization relieve their budget.

Another Focus of the show was the official launch of Nautifish, AGAR’s new private seafood brand. AGAR also donated $5,000 to Community Servings of Boston, MA from the sales of Nautifish during the show. Community Servings provides free, hot, home-delivered meals program for people ill with AIDS, their dependents, and caregivers.
