Thai Restaurants
The style of cuisine originating from Thailand is known for its balance of five fundamental flavors in dish such as hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty or bitter. Thai food may be known by most as a single cuisine, however it may be better understood as four regional cuisines corresponding to each of the four main regions of Thailand, Northern, Northeastern, Central and Southern.
Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh herbs and spices as well as fish sauce and shrimp paste. The dishes of the Central and Southern regions have a variety of leaves such as kaffir lime leaves which often appears in many Thai soups or curry from those areas. Kafir is often combined with garlic, galangal, lemon grass, turmeric and/or fingerroot, blended with chillies to make curry paste. Other common ingredients used in Thai food include Thai eggplants, tamarind, palm and coconut sugars, lime juice, and coconut milk.
Popular Thai dishes include: Tom Yum Goong Shrimp, a clear soup made from lemon grass, kaffir lime, hot pepper, lime juice and fish sauce; Fried Rice Kow Pad with Thai style fried rice, Pad See Ew Pad See Ew with stir fried rice noodles, Chinese broccoli and soy sauces. Laab with Larb Spicy ground pork or chicken salad cooked in lime juice, chili pepper and fish sauce; Chicken Curry Gang Gai Chicken, and Thai eggplant in red curry; and Green Papaya Salad with Som Tum Shredded green papaya, cherry tomatoes, green beans with lime dressing.
